Learn how to distinguish a DASH video from unrelated requests, previews, and audio tracks.
Published
A busy page can request many resources at once. A DASH stream detector is most useful when you match a manifest and its tracks to the video currently playing instead of choosing the first detected URL.
Start the specific video you want to save and allow it to play briefly. Pages with feeds, embedded clips, and autoplay may issue requests for several videos. Focusing on one source item makes it easier to associate new manifest activity with the correct playback.
DASH playback typically uses an MPD manifest that describes representations and segments. Other detected requests might be thumbnails, subtitles, analytics, advertising, or unrelated page assets. A manifest is a strong clue, but confirm its relationship to the current video using the preview, duration, title, or timing when available.
A detected presentation may expose several video qualities and multiple audio options. The largest resolution is not necessarily a complete audiovisual file, and the first audio option may not be your preferred language. Check the track labels and plan to include both media types when the stream separates them.
