A step-by-step checklist for recognizing an HLS playlist and checking the saved video.
Published
Downloading an M3U8 video is different from downloading a single MP4: M3U8 is generally a playlist that points to stream resources. The player and a compatible downloader must be able to reach those resources and assemble a usable result. Follow these steps only for content you own or are authorized to save; DRM-protected streams are not supported.
Use the page or service that provides the video, not a playlist of unknown origin. Confirm you have permission to make a local copy. Start playback so the page establishes the requests and session needed by its player. If the video is behind a sign-in, use the normal account flow and do not share session links.
Inspect detected candidates and look for the item associated with the current video. A master playlist may offer several resolutions; a media playlist may correspond to one rendition. Compare the available quality labels, preview, and audio choices when shown. Do not assume a file named .m3u8 is itself the complete video.
Streaming segments arrive over time, and a transfer may fail if the source session or URL expires. Keep the page available while downloading. Open the finished file locally, check several points, and confirm that audio and duration make sense. If the result is incomplete, retry from the official source. Do not bypass DRM or access controls.
Only download content you own or have permission to save. Support depends on the website and media format; DRM-protected content is not supported.
