Learn why DASH often separates audio and video and how to check a combined download.
Published
A DASH player can request separate audio and video representations. A complete saved copy needs the intended tracks, compatible formats, and synchronized timing.
DASH adaptation sets let publishers offer video and audio choices independently. This can support multiple resolutions, codecs, and languages without duplicating every possible combination. It also means one downloaded video representation may contain no audio until a matching audio representation is selected.
Identify the intended video quality and the audio language you want. Check codec and timing compatibility where that information is available. Commentary, alternate-language audio, and accessibility tracks can be valid options, but may not be the main program track you expect.
Combining compatible tracks places them in one output container while preserving their timing relationship. It does not necessarily re-encode the media, and it cannot fix an unsupported codec by itself. The exact output and processing behavior depend on the tool and the source stream.
Play the beginning, a middle section, and the ending to check for sound and synchronization drift. If the tracks are separate outputs, use a compatible local media tool only when you are permitted to process the content. DRM-protected streams are not supported; do not bypass DRM.
Only download content you own or have permission to save. Support depends on the website and media format; DRM-protected content is not supported.
